For Prospective Students

Thanks for your interest in joining our research group. We are actively seeking students with a strong background in computer vision, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.

Research Areas

We’re mainly working in the following research areas. We’re also open to exploring other topics in computer vision and machine learning.

• Continual Learning and Few-shot Learning: learning deep neural networks efficiently on limited labeled data and continual data streams. Related papers: [Sun et al., 2019], [Liu et al., 2020], [Liu et al., 2021], [Liu et al., 2023], [Fischer et al., 2024], etc.
• 3D Generative Models: developing 3D-aware generative models to better understand the underlying 3D structures in 2D images. Related papers: [Ma et al., 2023], [Fischer et al., 2024], [Ma et al., 2024], etc.
• Medical Image Analysis: enhancing AI models’ reliability and generalizability for medical images such as CT scans. Related paper: [Zhang et al., 2023].

PhD Students

We are actively seeking highly motivated PhD students to join our research group through the following PhD program:

Master’s Students

• Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS)

This is a research-oriented degree that requires both coursework and a thesis. The application process follows the same standards and requirements as the PhD programs.

Independent Studies (IS389/589, CS397/597, and ECE397/597)

We always welcome undergraduate and master’s students in the School of Information Sciences, the Siebel School of Computing and Data Science, and the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois to apply for independent studies under my supervision.
